Hello Q&A: Ali Basalyga

This week we interviewed our shorter, more denim-clad,  but just as hardworking summer intern.

Favorite animal?

“Dogs. Every single breed of dog.”

If you were a color, what would you be?

“Green. I might just be saying that because it’s my favorite color, but I’m sure I can make up an explanation…so I just googled it and green is associated with energy. I’m pretty all over the place so that works.”

Guilty pleasure?

“I feel like if I like something enough, I shouldn’t feel guilty about it. But if we’re doing this then I guess any intensely sour candy.”

Hidden talent?

“I can rap Guns and Ships from Hamilton…but that’s not really that hidden, actually.”

What was your yearbook quote?

“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things- friendship anad bravery.”

East coast or West coast?

“Definitely East coast.”

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

“Probably white with black stripes.”

Do you find it weird that you just interviewed yourself?

“I talk to myself constantly, so it wasn’t really that out of the norm.”

Hello Q&A: Randy Williams

This week we interviewed senior manager Randy Williams and asked him the classic questions you know and love.

Favorite animal?

“Giraffe…I saw them for the first time in a zoo in Florida. They had a tree house where you can feed them and be at eye level with them. I had never seen a giraffe up close before, so that was really cool.”

If you were a color, what would you be?

“Green..like a lime green.

Guilty pleasure?

“Watching old black and white movies.”

Hidden talent?

“I’m a decent golfer…a lot of people don’t know that.”

What was your yearbook quote?

“I don’t think we had quotes…I was the co-editor of the yearbook though. If I had to choose now…probably something like “Aim high.”

East coast or West coast?

“East coast.”

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

“They are definitely white with black stripes.

Injury? Call DLP. Advertising? Call Hello DSA. (Part Two)

We’ve started video shoots for DLP’s latest ad campaign! We love having daily visitors here at Hello DSA. The attorneys have been great for the camera and we’ve even had a one-take wonder (not saying who did it).

Dan helps direct each subject react to and flip the cards. After each shoot, the footage gets uploaded to our database. From there, Dan edits it in EDIUS.

Here he adds some color balance and sets the videos to the DLP jingle. Soon we have the finished ads! Look back at our previous blog post to see the journey of this campaign from script to screen, and keep a look out for these ads coming to a news feed near you!

Hello Q&A: Tom Stitzer

This week we interviewed Tom, one of our wonderful and ever-busy interns.

Favorite animal?

“Pandas…they’re chill chill and nom on bamboo.”

If you were a color, what would you be?

“Blue. The sky is blue, the oceans blue…it’s the color of freedom. It’s my color of freedom.”

Guilty pleasure?

“Eating sweets. Eating candy. It shouldn’t happen, but I do it when I feel like I deserve it.”

Hidden talent?

“I’m a downhill skateboarder…that’s not really hidden.”

What was your yearbook quote?

“I didn’t have one…only like a third of the class did it.”

East coast or West coast?

“There’s more fun on the West Coast but the East Coast is cooler. Like I love the New England area. It’s gorgeous there.”

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

“White with black stripes.”

One of our most prominent clients is DLP Law. Throughout the summer, we’ve been working on a new campaign for each of their attorneys. We’ll show you the beginning steps of this project and eventually show the complete journey from computer screen to television screen!

We start with a basic storyboard. Each commercial will only be 15 seconds long, so we can only use a maximum of eight slides to get the message across.

Then, we take each portrait of the attorneys and insert them into each slide. Because they’ll be holding cards in the commercial, we add hands holding cards onto the portrait to give us a base for our text. We also adjust a few slides to demonstrate zoomed in shots.

dsa blankcards.pngWith each attorney’s specialty in mind, we write a scenario that would prompt a call to DLP (clever puns are a must). We also add in a picture for the customer and then we have our completed storyboard.

dlpfullLucky for us, our client loved our ideas, which means our next step is to get these cards printed and ready for the camera!

Hello Q & A: Jared Sokirka

In today’s episode of Hello Q & A, we ask production director Jared Sokirka your burning questions (yes, they are the same questions…it’s important information).

Favorite animal?

“Does it have to be real? Dragon”

If you were a color, what would you be?

“Probably blue…blue is the best.”

Guilty pleasure?

“Pizza.”

Hidden talent?

“I can do magic and karate at the same time.”

What was your yearbook quote?

“I did have a quote…something about music…I’ll just give a random inspirational quote instead. The only thing needed for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.”

East coast or West coast?

“West coast!”

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

“White with black stripes.”

Tying up Loose Ends (and untying some new ones)

It’s been a very productive week here at Hello DSA! In this past week, we’ve finished the first complete drafts of projects for the Voluntary Action Center and the Laurie and Lynn Show. Look how great the VAC green screen turned out!

VAC.png

Dan made the background and saved it as its own picture. Using After Effects, we were able to erase the green screen and replace it with the VAC’s signature red style.

While we finish up some projects, we also start work on new ones (because an agency’s work is never done).  We traveled to Kingston to do a quick photoshoot for Belt Law Firm. The rainy day was kind enough to stop just in time to get some nice exterior shots (seen in the featured image at the top of the post).

We also wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July! See you next month!

Hello Q&A: Dan Simrell

Every once in a while on this blog, we’re going to feature one of our employees in our series Hello Q&A. This week, we welcome our founder and creative director Dan Simrell and asked him the questions we knew you were desperate to know.

Favorite animal?

“My dogs, Sadie and Maggie.”

If you were a color, what would you be?

“White, because it goes with everything…and I’m also pretty white already.”

Guilty pleasure?

“Candy. Any kind of sweets.”

Hidden talent?

“I can consume more Diet Cokes than anyone in a limited amount of time.”

What was your yearbook quote?

“It’s a small world, but I wouldn’t want to paint it.”

East coast or West coast?

“East coast.”

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes?

“Oh God…definitely white with black stripes.”

Stay tuned for more employee profiles!

Music to our Ears

The Hill Section is alive with the sound of music this week at Hello DSA. We had a special visitor here in the office: Sue Schuster, founder of Eleven Eleven Voices. At every Eleven Eleven Voices event, all those interested are given sheet music and learn a song. These events bring people together through music and encourage unity.

Our fearless leader Dan Simrell was recently chosen as the choir director for the next event in Hazelton. Maybe we could expect a musical arrangement post in the future? We had a quick informal video shoot with Sue and our friend Jay for this announcement.

In addition to the announcement, Dan also held a musical experiment to test his theory that people immediately sound better when singing in a group. Do you agree? You can watch the video and decide for yourself.
